Even if you are very careful, when laying a wallpaper, or at different times, it is difficult to avoid the formation of some defects. On the surface can form long folds, the paper may stain or rip and is frequent the formation of bubbles. In other cases, the coatings are scratched, scraped and so on. Here's how to repair major damage to the wallpaper quickly and easily.
The bubbles can be formed, sometimes, when the paper is not spreaded evenly with glue before placing it on the wall, or if it has been layed before it has completely absorbed the glue. To eliminate this defect practiced a cross cut right on the bubble and fold out flaps of paper, to apply the glue inside.
Then, immediately press the paper against the wall (otherwise it dilates) repositioning the flaps properly. You can take another simple technique that involves injecting the glue in the centre of the bubble with a syringe.
Wait a few minutes to let it penetrate behind the paper, and then tap on the bubble to eliminate it permanently. Cut away any excess adhesive squeezed out of the bubble repaired using a wet sponge, then Wipe it with a hard object and adjust it to make the paper perfectly flat. In this way it will be practically impossible to recognize the intervention, unless the spot is observed very carefully and closely.
The first rule to follow, to reduce the problem of stains on the wallpaper, is to perform periodic cleaning of the coating, which allows you to quickly eliminate dirt: the more recent is the stain, the easiest will be its elimination. Stains can be generally eliminated without having to replace the wallpaper.
Washable upholstery, usually, can be cleaned with mild detergent and warm water. Before eliminating a stain on the washable wallpaper, make sure that the colors are very stable, passing a wet rag on a little part in a corner.
Most modern wallpapers are obtained through the use of colors that give the maximum guarantee of stability, but... you never know.
If the damage made with the cloth is evident, you can be sure to replace the affected part with a new insert of wallpaper.
The vinylic wallpaper must be washed by wiping with a soft brush: do not insist for a long time not to cause the separation of the cloth.
There are several products on the market that can be sprayed for a dry removal of the stains: spray the liquid onto the stain, and brush away the dust that was formed by drying.
Small stains can be removed with trichlorethylene dabbing the stain with a clean cloth, but avoid scrubbing because any drawings may fade.
Splashes of fat are removed with a mixture of talc and trichlorethylene: Apply the paste on the stain with a spatula and let it there until it is dry, then brush.
Pass on the larger stains, and the entire surrounding area, the putty rubber. It is a very soft type of rubber that is generally used by the designers. The dough should be rotated several times, continually pressing with the palm of the hand.
Sometimes the fat can be absorbed (but not on vinyl paper) by applying absorbent paper and pressing it with a hot iron. For vinyl coatings can be useful to grease the stain (if it is dry) with olive oil, before cleaning. Use a clean cloth by applying mild aggressive detergent and diluted with plenty of water.
To repair a tear in the wallpaper, cut a piece slightly larger than the tear and place it on top of it, matching the drawings. With the cutter at the same time cut the piece of the wallpaper underneath, making sure to incorporate, in the cut, all the damaged part of the tapestry.
Pull off the old upholstery inside the cut and glue it, with vinyl glue or special glue for wallpaper, the new one centering it for good. The edges will coincide perfectly.
Finally, lightly press the patching. If the paper is vinyl there is a support of thick paper under it. You have to leave in place the paper support of the old coating: do not pull away when removing the damaged wallpaper, before pasting the new patching.
If the paper is detached from the wall it can be bonded again without particular difficulties. If coverage for walls is vinyl-type, to secure the paper use a glue little diluted and apply it with a brush.
