Suspended seats: shapes and design

During the summer, what better way to relax than being lulled by the gentle rocking of a simple suspended seat?
It is no longer necessary to have large trees to hang the seats to: the new suspended seats may be fixed without problems to the structures created for this purpose.
In this way, even those who do not have a garden, but only a simple terrace, can enjoy a cuddle in the open air.

But not only that, all models are well suited for indoor environments: from the porch to the living room, these furnishings give a touch of originality to your rooms. They derive from a review of the chairs of the Seventies, with spherical and wrapping and colorful shapes.

The shapes and the design of the suspended seats for the garden, vary considerably from one model to another. The most common have the shape of a raindrop, a coconut, an egg or, more simply they have a spherical or oval shape.

The structure, usually hanging on the trunk of a tree, or simply fixed to the self-supporting structure created ad hoc, is then padded with cushions for outdoor use in different sizes, material and texture, depending on your tastes and needs. In the market, they are now everywhere: from large retailers, companies specializing inoutdoors furnishings, to to e-commerce web sites.

The cost of a suspended chair for the garden depends essentially on the materials it is composed of, but also by the models, the designers, the finishes, etc..

Before buying a suspended seat, in addition to the price, consider the quality of the product: it is good that these seats are safe, durable, waterproof and easy to clean from dust and stains.

Always consider the weight that these seats can bear: if it is a seat for children, it can hardly support the weight of an adult; same thing for the stability of the strings and of the hooks of the structure itself. Carefully read all the technical specifications in order to avoid disappointment!

Suspended seats: some cult models

One of the pieces that have made the history of international design, still being a timeless object, still contemporary and contextual for any type of furniture: it is the seat called Egg designed by designer Nanna Jorgen Ditzel for Pierantonio Bonacina in 1957.

The seat is made of a lightweight wicker hand woven over a ring structure in painted tubular steel, the coating is a choice, the chain is 2.00 meters long, with snap fasteners.

Lightness and elegance are the adjectives that describe the quality of the rocking chair Egg Swing from Maia collection designed by Patricia Urquiola, for the company Kettal.

The structure is in aluminum, while the fabric is composed of a weave of porotex and chenille. The seat, with its structure, is suspended about 50 cm from the ground to reach a total height of 192 cm.
The available colors range from white to brown to black, to match with the cushions of colors and sizes as you wish.

Swingrest is a suspended seat in wicker by Dedon, which can comfortably accommodate 2 people, considering the diameter of almost 2 meters.

The suspended sofa Swingrest is the evolution of the igloo couch Swingrest on the project by the designer Daniel Pouzet and his partner Jean Marie Massaud.
It may be partly closed on the back with a curtain, so as to allow anyway the view to the outside; it is equipped with a small side table that can rotate up to 180 degrees. Its tubular steel structure is coated in rope.
