Furnishing a studio apartments is often a challenge for the architect.
You have to make easy all the activities that generally take place in a house, but in a small area.
In this case, it becomes very useful to resort to furniture that cater to more features.
The typical example of multifunctional furniture is the sofa bed, which has become an indispensable element for a one room apartment. In fact, the measures usually available in a studio do not allow you to put in the same room a sofa and a bed.
We first talked about companies that design practical sofa beds. Here we see Easy Sleep designed by Luca Scacchetti for Paolo Castelli SpA. The idea of this sofa bed comes from the image of a hand that opens and closes. With the same simple gesture of the hand, the sofa bed takes two positions: closed for the day and open for the night. Some side buttons with elastics ensure the closed position. The same buttons then become a useful anchor for fixing the bed sheets specifically designed for this piece of forniture.
The padding is made of high density polyurethane, a material that according to the manufacturer ensures comfort both in the sitting and in the bed formula (and here we refer back to what we were saying about ergonomics). The coating is, like in most traditional sofas, removable and has a wide variety of fabrics and colors to choose from.
For people who like trying different ways of living the sofa bed, there is for example Papillon, designed by the Design Centre for Bonaldo .
The two backrests of the sofa bed can both recline and take on different configurations: sofa, chaise longue and bed.
This is therefore an example of that evolution to which I referred before in how to use a sofa bed. You can in fact choose the shape that most suits you to relax from many possibilities, combining the simplicity of the transition from one shape to another.
I finally find interesting to mention an example of a sofa bed that, in addition to fulfilling the functions of seat and bed, also offers additional items of furniture for a studio. It's Happy Room by Futura, a company that produces many models of convertible sofas and armchairs.
Happy Room converts the sofa bed in the main piece of furniture in the studio, because it is also equipped with a pull-out table behind the back of the sofa and lower extractable side coffee tables on the armrests. The concept of sofa bed spreads therefore, into multi-functionality.
