Among the accessories and furniture designed for the house, and in particular for the living room, the bookshelf is definitely one of the most versatile and capable item, thanks to the design and the functionality, to propose innovative forms, which are transformed in pure decoration. The modular bookcases, and especially those in box shape, have the advantage of adapting to the space perfectly, even after changes or expansions ongoing.
They are composed of modular elements that are repeated, even to infinity, creating new and different configurations that fit well in any space to characterize it: libraries are not only used to store more books but in fact to accommodate different elements, technological, valuable, or just knick-knacks.
These modular bookcases have different structures and support systems, they are made of different materials, mainly in wood or metal, while the support or closure elementa have different surface finishes: woods, polished or chromed metals, lacquered and hot-worked in many colors and glasses (acid-etched, decorated, painted).
They can be placed on a wall or they can be freestanding (with indipendent structure or anchored to the ceiling) in order to liven up or divide the environment. They are useful for storing everything you want in a functional and neat way, you can enter only certain modules creating drawings to your liking or even cover an entire wall, strongly featuring the space.
In the organization of the compartments of the library, you must pay attention to the size, taking into account the height and depth of the books, the height of these in fact may generally vary from 18 cm up to 40 cm even for the special editions. The depth of the shelves should not be less than 25 cm and usually they shouldn't exceed 35-40 cm.
Systems of this kind are of great convenience, because they allow you to place in an orderly manner a large number of objects that would otherwise be scattered here and there throughout the house, and maybe difficult to find when needed.
Some companies have focused deeply on the aesthetic as well as on the functional side, creating interesting bookcases that are true design elements.
There is nothing more functional that having a modular furniture to suit your aesthetic needs and space.
Busnelli is a historic brand of Italian furnishing especially known for the production of sofas.
In the catalog, however, also has other accessories such as patio furnitures, coffee tables and a modular bookshelf.
Designed by Alalda_Design, Lib_ris is an agile and intelligent system to contain books and objects.
It consists of seven basic elements of different shapes and sizes, made of painted high-strength aluminum, freestanding, which can be aggregated in different shapes, vertical, horizontal, angular, three-dimensional, giving rise to infinite as functional modularity .
The elements are made by assembling them at 45 degrees, using a reinforcing core which is inserted in the head portion, inclined with respect to each side of union.
The tightness is achieved through the use of a polyurethane-based adhesive with high resistance. The connection between the various elements is achieved with the aid of metallic double thread studs, with interlocking tongue and groove, provided in two different sizes depending on which is needed to put together contiguous or terminal elements.
The finish is made of a liquid coating with a double application, a base coating with high resistance and a layer of embossed textured, fixed by baking it in an oven.
The piece of forniture is available in white, black, brown, gray and red.
The Tok system by Cerruti Baleri, modular library by Benedict Quaquaro, consists of a few elements that can create endless configurations.
The Tok system is based on the concept of simplicity and flexibility: a few and limited items, of small encumbrance, easily transportable and storable, can predict infinite configurations. The structure is very simple: with two supporting elements (tok) and two shelves can be configured the minimal composition.
The system includes vertical elements of 2 heghts, painted in white or blacks, shelves of 5 sizes and 5 finishes (raw, laminated black and white, black and white lacquer, natural ash and ash mocha, teak), doors and back panels, white painted or black, and bases and supports on the ground and finally fixing on walls and ceilings.
Tok is devoted to books; the particular form of the supporting elements means that, once loaded, the vertical lines disappear and remain on sight only the horizontal scan of the shelves, the effect you get is the vision of a wall of books; the vertical element itself instead has a sculptural component given by the slight bending of the back.
The configurations of the Tok systems are virtually endless. The bookshelves can grow horizontally and vertically, with the ability to manage equally both sides. The shelves of different lengths allow you to draw articulated compositions, providing asymmetries, gaps or steps in the case of using the library as a room divider.
Furthermore, the concept of simple mechano, which is the basis of the design of the library, allows its disassembly and easy reconfiguration, as well as the possible expansion in subsequent times.
Another bookcase that is easily configurable is Tred Shelf, a project by Monica Armani for Moroso: a bookcase that is smart, functional and original, which can be easily configured to suit your requirements.
It is an object carefully designed and aesthetically pleasing which is also very convenient to use: the bookcase consists of simple shelves and uprights that move on hidden rails and allow you to configure a series of open shelves. The vertical elements, may also have padded fabric inserts making them decorative and witty; you can choose from three lengths of shelves and connecting brackets creating different ways, for example, L, H, T, U or S.
It can also be used to isolate or divide a room and it adapts easily to different styles of furniture.
Among the innovations in terms of modular bookcases in box shape, we find Dsquadro, or D + S2, the team of young architects of the Polytechnic of Milan. The Join project is their idea, an innovative modular furniture that can create flexible and functional accessories, through a game of joints. All this happens with eco-friendly materials, such as wood, made from OSB scraps, Oriented Strand Board or even from MDF, processed using nail water polish and non-toxic solvents, without too much loss of VOCs, volatile organic compounds, so harmful to the health.
In addition to the recycling, Join is also involved with creativity and imagination, not only of the designers. It is the final user who, after having purchased the item, sold in kit like a board game, can have fun creating his own home complement at will, by simply following the instructions for a correct assembly and fit. The boxes are reusable for other functions: ie as magazine racks, games or containers for various objects. Prices are not high: they start at 10 euro for the coin tray, 26 euro for the magazines rack, up to 65 euro tor thelamp shape model.
Not only handmade products, but we also find real design projects, among other things, a la mode, including the bookcases that take advantage of modular boxes and cubes as an aesthetic solution. Interesting and extremely colorful, for example, is Kubo, the modular furniture for the living room, created by designer Karim Rashid.
Kubo, realized by Meritalia, is a series of containers with a cubic form and a wide range of colors, which have been enriched by the designer with symbols and graphical signs just inside the space created by the box, which externally has a coating of multicolored laminated plastic. The sizes are quite practical, 40 x 40 cm, and in the version with 4 stacked cubes, the cubes are also available in a swivel version. The composition is endless: just stack them one on top of the other, as desired, or ordered by helping the 8 graphic signs available.
Often the shelves, enhanced by a particular color and shape, can serve as a young and creative bookcase. This is what happens with Altavoz, the shelf created by Carlos Tiscar forKarl Andersson & Söner, characterized by very defined geometric shapes and a magnetic background. The bottom of the various modules, in fact, is made in very bright colors, able to furnish even with only a few modules, simply joined together.
The boxes, available with the frame in eight different colors and with inserts in yellow, pink, beige or blue, can be either attached to the wall or used stacked one above the other, simply by placing them on the floor.
Altavoz is a really modular and functional furniture, to be used freely, whether at home, in the office, not to mention, thanks to the use of colors, also in spaces for children.
Talking about children, the proposals for wall modular boxes by Ferm Living are very interesting. Like the containers Study, in the shape of a house, available in different sizes and with different backdrops in pastel shades, or even random selection, a series of shelves, hanging alone or in groups, forming an unusual and colorful bookcase. Available in different colors, they are made maple and birch woods, they also come with plexiglass or glass doors to coordinate.
Let's also mention a small multitasking modular bookcase, which can prove to be if necessary, practical furnishings of the last minute. It's the philosophy behind As if from nowhere, or as if from nowhere, a project by the designer Orla Reynolds based on a sectional furniture, modular, which apparently seems to be a simple decor with interior contours, very colorful. But these are actually 4 chairs and 2 small tables, to be taken out as needed.
Nice to look at, the modular bookcase is also a good solution in the case of mini apartments with tight spaces.
The box bookcase is also one of those furniture that lends itself well in the case of creativity and imagination, to do it yourself jobs. For example you really need very little to create a colorful and fun solution like the one proposed by the editors of Ikea Livet Hemma.
Built using plywood boxes Prant, 12 euro each, these have been repainted inside with water-based paint in various colors and fixed with simple terminals, generally used for sheets of paper & Co. The idea: beautiful also with wallpaper with graphic alternatives or a vintage effect.
