ADI is the association for industrial design that, every year, selects the best of the Italian designer production that has reached the market in the previous year and publish the collection.
The products, which belong to various categories, then compete in prestigious international awards, including the Compasso d'Oro.
Let's see a brief review of some of the most interesting projects from among those published, for the year that is about to end.
The faucets by Fold was designed by Lorenzo Damiani to back up the accessories of the same collection designed for Ceramica Flaminia that consists of shelves, towel holders, hooks and toilet brush holder.
The design feature that is the leitmotif of the whole line, is the mechanical bending of the tubular chromed steel that draws the outline with a crushing. It is therefore, about what is usually considered a defect which becomes, in this case, the characteristic element, evocative of a gesture: the physical effort made to bend metal.
Hemp Chair is a stackable chair monocoque, cantilever type, sturdy and comfortable in the seat, designed by Werner Aisslinger for Moroso.
Its characteristic is that it is also environmentally friendly because it is the first chair designed using a particular material based on natural fibers. It is a sheet consisting of more than 75% of hemp, which is processed industrially using a thermoforming hot process, a low environmental impact process, derived from the automotive industry. This process is supported by the industrial chemicals Basf.
This technique allows a remarkable ease of modeling that leads to exasperate the softness of the seat.
Hemp Chair is 75 cm wide by 71 cm deep, 70 cm high, while the seat is placed at 38 cm height.
Already from the name, the table Tobi Ishi, a table - sculpture, a kind of monolith, is shown as deeply inspired by the Orient. The name is in fact the one given in the original language to the typical decorative stones of Japanese gardens.
And in fact, both the table that the two bases, which take different perspectives, depending on where you look, have precisely the shape of these polished stones. Their position also alludes to the search for equilibrium, typical of the creations of Edward Barber and Jay Osbergy since the beginning of their activities, and they have proposed in this project for B & B Italy. It is the balance of the Japanese garden, with its tranquility and elegance, which influenced the British duo.
The bases are made of Baydur® (polyurethane structural foam) and the cantilevered wooden floor. Both are manufactured with the use of the cement slurry, a liquid material traditionally used in construction and architecture to fix the coatings or for the waterproofing of roofs, which here becomes a kind of surface skin which allows to obtain the desired granitic aspect.
The cement is coated by hand, bringing a touch of craftsmanship in a product for a large part achieved at an industrial scale.
Later editions have been proposed in particular in white Carrara marble and black Marquina marble, which have enriched and emphasized the collection. The company also offers table lacquered in two colors very different from each other: the vibrant Candy Red and Blue Smoke quieter. The lacquer almost mirrored once again reiterates its oriental inspiration.
Tobi Ishi has a diameter of 162 cm and is 72.5 cm high.
The kitchen K20 by Boffi fits with continuity in the wake of the collection designed by Norbert Wangen for the company.
Recovering, in fact, the modularity of the components, the designer offers new designs for the doors and worktops.
The door finish surrounds the sides and above the floor, making it even more compact. The illuminated backdrop, which can also be equipped with a shelf, increases even more the feeling of continuity.
