The iron doors that are often present in our houses usually communicate with the outside world and, for this reason, humidity and atmospheric agents compromise its integrity and beauty causing the formation of rust. Rust and old paint are the elements that must be removed prior to repainting the door. Let's see how it works.
1) Preliminarily eliminate the rust that eventually was formed on the surface of the door. If the rust is extensive use a grinder with a sanding disk and a flexible abrasive cloth.
2) To remove rust from tough spots and indentations, use the drill equipped with a wire brush to the cup.
3) To remove the old paint it is better to work with the hot air gun. Heat the paint and remove it, little by little with a spatula.
4) If the painted parts are particularly obstinate and you can not remove them with the thermogun, try to soften it with the flame.
5) To prevent the problem of the rust from recurring in the future pour in a container a certain amount of anti-rust converter.
6) Apply the converter at the points of the door most vulnerable to rust.
7) Following apply a small amount of rust converter on the entire surface of the door to totally protect from this risk.
8) At this point you can proceed to paint the door with the most appropriate tools. To get a good result in a short time you should use the electric gun.
9) Using a small brush you can retouch the painting even in less easily accessible points.
The iron doors are full of charm, elegance because of their manufacturing, especially in the case of wrought iron, and often also by the passage of time, since many of these items can be retrieved through generations. An iron door is not only a guarantee of robustness and security for your house, but it is also a decorative element that, if kept in good condition, can not but be of great charm.
The rust is not the only problem that can affect these structures: one of the interventions that most frequently is necessary to do for the recovery of dated iron doors regard to tapping: often, the iron doors with a few years behind are characterized by damage of the tapping temperature caused by internal blockage in which the closure piston must come down.
This phenomenon may occur for several reasons and especially if the door is placed in outdoor environments: in this case, external powders or coming from the soil can accumulate inside the hole, and forcing occludendolo to make use force for closing the door same in an effective way. Hence, with repeated use, damage to the tapping.
In such cases it is necessary to intervene with the cleaning of the hole, and literally cut the part of the iron gate that contains the tapping, to restore the proper functioning or, if recovery is not possible, it should be replaced with a new one properly working, taking care to practice regular maintenance to prevent the problem from happening again in the future.
Other situations may require rather frequent intervention by means of welding: in this case you can opt for the do it yourself, but you must be extremely careful and take all necessary precautions to ensure that operations are conducted in a safe way. The welding machine must always be used when accompanying protective gloves and protective mask for the eyes to prevent any sparks that can get to your face.
However, if you want to install an iron door from scratch, the phase of the DIY may precede that of the practical realization: thanks to the versatility of wrought iron, you can design the door hammering out the details more varied in the design phase.
In this preliminary stage of the work is possible, for example, to decide to make a door with motifs and decorations that recall those already on the gate or on other parts of the house, to create a sense of continuity and harmony between all the elements of the house. In this case, the only tools needed are really only two: creativity and good taste.
