Vertical Forest awarded skyscraper world's most beautiful

The Vertical Forest, the work by the Milanese architect Stefano Boeri, was a few days ago awarded with the prestigious International Highrise Award 2014, which was in competition with another 800 buildings located throughout the world.

The International Highrise Award is a prize, awarded every two years, which compares buildings of at least 100 meters high; to assign the award are taken into consideration parameters as sustainability, design, indoor environmental quality and integration with the urban context of belonging.
In effect, then, the Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest), can claim the title of world's most beautiful skyscraper.

This is actually not a single building, but a complex consisting of two residential towers of 80 and 112 meters high, for their 19 and 27 floors, with a total of 113 apartments.

The complex is part of the broader context of the redevelopment of Milan's Porta Nuova, an operation conducted according to the principles of sustainable, through which it was intended to give new life to an area of the city of 300 million square meters, where were built not only buildings, but also areas designated for planting, squares, bike paths, cultural centers and shops.

The Vertical Forest was created by Hines Italy SGR together with COIMA Image that, with Dolce Vita Home was in charge of the interior design, defining the cutting of various apartments and choice of finishes.

The element that most distinguishes the buildings is the presence of vegetation distributed outside along its full height, the result of a synergy between professional architects Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra from Studio Boeri, and a team of agronomists and landscapers.

The latter, in particular, have been valuable for advising the planting that best suited according to the height. Were chosen evergreens, the flaking and climbers including holm oaks, oaks, jasmine and aromatic essences, considered ideal for the excellent adaptability, for a total of over 100 different species.
Overall, the buildings house 800 trees, for a total of 20,000 square meters of forest distributed in height, offering an extraordinary example of biodiversity for the city of Milan.

In this way, the skyscraper becomes part of the urban context, as a green lung, a symbol of the aspiration of man to a greater contact with nature.

From the engineering point of view, the Vertical Forest is equipped with wind turbines installed on the roofs of about 500 square meters of photovoltaic panels placed on the roof not only on the coating, but also along the parapets and it uses geothermal energy for heating and summer cooling.
They have also been used biodegradable and non-polluting building materials .

The award came as recognition for having been able to create a work that perfectly combines aesthetics, comfort, safety and energy savings.

The doors of the world's most beautiful skyscraper

In addition to its unique appearance, the skyscraper by the Studio Boeri looks good even on the inside, thanks to the careful choice of materials and finishes from the best Italian companies.
In this article we are interested in particular in the doors, of internal and external use.

Porte Oikos per Foresta Verticale For security external doors the choice fell on two models by the brand Oikos Venezia srl: the performant Tekno and the armored vertical pivot Synua.

Like other materials used in the construction of the complex, even the armored Oikos are not impacting on the environment, it can be completely removed, disposed of and recycled.
Moreover Oikos, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, uses FSC certified wood, then coming from well-managed forests.

Also Effebiquattro partecipated to the project for the two towers; the company supplied and installed more than 1,100 interior doors.

For this prestigious project, the company achieved its doors following the needs and taste of the customer (and in fact 932 of these are characterized by a special height of 240 centimeters), thus demonstrating a strong manufacturing flexibility.

Most of the doors were chosen in the model Wall, made with teak finish open pore and lacquered to sample. The sliding doors, however, about 300 mainly in the type at the same level with the wall, were chosen in the model NoDoor2.
